Most commonly used textures are popcorn, knockdown and orange peel. These guns are carrying a large hopper above the gun and should be used with an air compressor because they are fed by gravity.

Since the texture spray gun is equipped with a hopper, application to horizontal surfaces could be challenging. It is often a good idea to apply on a similar surface and practise to see if it gives desired results. Most users will not completely fill the hopper because it will reduce spillage and it will not make the hands get tired soon.

The thickness of the texture applied is varied greatly with the brand and model of texture spray gun used. Some guns give best results when the liquid is too thin while others give best results with a think mixture. Therefore make sure to read the product specification to find out the exact requirements.

When using a texture hopper gun, often the property will get very messy. Therefore make sure to cover all doors, windows, frames and other furniture in the surrounding area using plastic sheets or canvas. Also make sure to use protective gear; especially a painter’s mask and goggles if ceilings are being textured.

Based on the nature of texture used, the hopper and the gun must be thoroughly cleaned after use. Always ensure that texture is not left behind to dry in the equipment.
